Jeff Rasor—Your Next Breakthrough: 3 Shifts to Realign Your Leadership, Calling, & Future
What do you do when you finally get everything you prayed for and still feel empty?
In this episode of the Business Builder's Playbook, host David Bush sits down with Jeff Rasor of Blue Sky Academy, a breakthrough guide who has spent 25 years helping entrepreneurs, business owners, and executives through seasons of transition. Jeff spent nearly a decade in financial services, served as creative director at Promise Keepers, and pastored a church outside Denver for 10 years before turning to high-achieving Christian leaders who look successful on paper and feel stuck underneath.
Jeff explains the quiet crisis many leaders carry, why the ceiling of success is a signal worth listening to, and how a living set of personal blueprints helped a fundraising executive who had finished second for two nonprofit roles land the ministry role that fit him and an entrepreneur double his revenue in 18 months.
Here's what you'll learn by watching or listening to this full episode:
* How to recognize the early signs of a breakthrough season, such as irritability and quiet apathy
* How to treat the emptiness you feel at the top as a signal that something more is waiting
* Why chasing significance goes further than setting bigger goals
* How to sort the greater yeses from the lesser yeses when your calendar is already full
* How to merge your spiritual journey and your career plan into one playbook
* How to spot the lies that keep high achievers on autopilot and stalled out
* How to slow down to speed up with a process built on surrender, momentum, clarity, and purpose
* How a fundraising executive who finished second twice found the role that fit him and how his team grew from 5 to 50
* How an entrepreneur stuck on a three-year revenue plateau doubled his business in 18 months

You look around and go. I just don't know if God has any more for my future. Maybe this is the best it will ever be. Man, when we fall prey to that, we need this kind of work most because I just fully believe on the other side of those clouds, that ceiling of success is the more that God has for you. That identity of being stuck begins to stick in. Man, if we don't get that breakthrough, we're gonna find ourselves two years, five years, 10 years down the road, trapped in that.

Welcome to the Business Builders Playbook, the show that breaks down the systems and strategies behind predictable revenue growth to win in business. In each episode, we're diving into the proven strategies that separate the winners who scale from the losers who fail. This show is sponsored by BDR AI, the AI-powered business development platform that automates your outbound prospecting, so you can focus in on closing deals instead of chasing leads. Let's get started. All right, well, welcome everybody. We're going to get started here in just about 30 seconds. If you've just arrived, we're so excited that you're here. We had so much interest in this particular topic because I think that more and more people are looking for a breakthrough, and they're looking for the strategies, the tactics, the tools, the coaching on how to help them to create that breakthrough. And oftentimes we get caught up in our own ceilings of complexity, and we have our you know garbage thinking that ends up keeping us from breaking through. And I can't wait for you all today to get a chance to meet a great friend of mine who has just been somebody that's super passionate about this particular topic. And he's not just passionate; he's experienced at doing it, both personally and professionally. He is actually coaching individuals to create these breakthroughs. And so, for those of you that just arrived into the live session, we're glad that you're here. Let us know that you're here. Use the chat if you want. If you want to ask questions, put them into the Q and A. I'll make sure that those questions get answered in the order in which they're received. We did have so many people that had showed interest in the event. We did put some questions together ahead of time, and we're going to use those questions as a base. And then, as more questions come in, we'll try to get to those questions as much as we can. And if we don't get to all of them, if you submit a question, Jeff has agreed to follow up with anyone who has a question and to provide more insights and opportunities for resources. So, without any further ado, welcome everybody. I'm super excited to get a chance to be your host and moderator. My name is David Bush from BDR AI, and today we're talking about the topic of breakthrough: three shifts to realign your leadership, calling, and future. And we're going to be featuring Jeff Razor from Blue Sky Academy. And many of you have probably already seen some of Jeff's background, and he's going to get a chance to tell you a little bit more about it. But what I love about Jeff is his authenticity. You know, there's a lot of people out there that are in a position where they're professional know-it-alls. He's a person that's saying, "Hey, I'm taking these exact same principles that I'm coaching other people on, and I'm proving them out myself. I'm going through the process of breakthrough, and I'm breaking down sometimes, but I'm not giving up, and I'm continuing to push on. And for 25 years, he's been helping entrepreneurs, business owners, leaders, executives through powerful seasons of transition to break through. And I can't wait to introduce you to him. So, Jeff, welcome to today's show.
Jeff Rasor 3:14
Yeah, David, thank you so much for having me. It's been a joy getting to know you this year and seeing your work history and experience, and your heart for the marketplace, and there's a lot of kindred spirit in both our experience and our heart for people. And I'm excited to share part of my journey on this. And if what I have to offer inspires and encourages our audience, that's an extra blessing. And so, just thanks for having me. I'm enjoying this opportunity to do this with you.
David Bush 3:40
Yeah. Well, I gave everybody just a bit of a highlight clip of what it is that has brought you to this point today. But you've been doing this for 25 years. Would you give us a quick little overview of where you've been, what you've been through, and then what's brought you to this point of a point of passion to talk to people about how to create a breakthrough?
Jeff Rasor 3:58
Yeah, absolutely. If I can give my 30-year leadership testimony in three minutes. I'll do my best. But my wife and I were high school sweethearts. Went to business college together, and I thought I was supposed to be the CEO of a major firm because that's what they train you to be in business college. So I spent my first near decade in my career in the financial services and climbing the corporate ladder, as you would say, and watching God just place a lot of favor on opportunities for me that I even didn't expect with that educational experience, and yet what I saw was internal to me was this this crossroads of hey, so many of the people in this space in the marketplace that are successful, and you can define that any many any different set of ways. But they didn't have what I considered success of that significance of what God has for them in the kingdom and the marketplace and in their families. And they were really burnout in that journey. And so early in my career, I recognized this pivot moment where I asked the Lord, you know, if this is what success. Looks like I don't know if that's what the success I want for the rest of my life. And God gave me that glimpse of what that when in my mid 20s of what that 30 year future could look like, and it didn't look appealing to me. And so I really began to seek the Lord on what it meant to pursue breakthrough in my own life, in my own career journey, in my own walk with God in terms of how I live out my calling in the world, both in the marketplace and quote unquote in ministry, and God begin to move my career significantly. And so I pivoted from that financial services career into a leadership role. At an at the time was a really well known men's ministry called Promise Keepers. Excuse me, I got invited to be creative director at Promise keepers and serve what the the teams that led the experience from the platform and got to create transformational experiences for hundreds of 1000s of men that attended our events and completely shifted my career from financial services to nonprofit ministry and then God began to develop and shape and steward within me this calling of a pastor, and so I left my significant role at Promise Keepers to pastor in my local church outside Denver, and did that for 10 years serving people. And so I guess if I were to put all of that into a nutshell before I got into this work, David, it's this idea that man, it isn't always about finding the next thing or selling the business or changing the job because you run into some of those same collisions of questions before the Lord of what am I here for? What are you doing in me? What are you preparing me for in any given setting? And so it's not about a knee-jerk reaction, but it's about really finding that unique blueprint that God has for you, which I know we're going to talk about. So as that role pastoring after 10 years wrapped up, I recognized there wasn't many rooms I hadn't been in in terms of leading you know people the marketplace executives in terms of creating experiences for people to experience transformation and really life on life pastoring both from the stage and countless coffees with our staff and congregants in our church and I recognized God had somehow uniquely allowed me to be in all of those settings and still have this ability to encourage, equip, and set people free into what God's called them to do. And so I had never entrepreneured before, but God invited me to really set out into a new course and chart a course to work with high achieving Christian leaders that are in those pivot seasons or anticipating that they're in those, and really help guide them to that next set of breakthroughs in their life, their career, their family, that sort of thing. So that's the quick version of the journey. But that's what leads me here today. And my passion, why why come to this to answer that question, is I've recognized there there are a lot of crises in the world today.
Jeff Rasor 7:37
It doesn't take them more than 30 seconds to turn on the news, or open your news app on your phone, or jump on YouTube and recognize there's a crisis everywhere we look. But one of the things that's been burdening me this year that God, I think, has uniquely brought me to this place, and I think part of why we're doing this this workshop today is there's a quiet crisis in Christian leaders. That there's a track record in so many Christian leaders, men and women, business owners, executives, career professionals that are high achieving-that there's this track record of success, and success looks different for all of us. But that generalization of like, hey, I've got a great career, I've got a successful business. I'm in some ways people envy the role I'm in, but they don't see the pain, they don't see the sacrifice, they don't see the emptiness that I sometimes feel in this journey of success, and that quiet crisis, I believe, is holding Christian leaders back from all that God's created them for. And so, it's not to critique that moment; it's to recognize that there are more leaders in that moment of their life, and their career, and their business journey than than any of us would raise our hand and admit. We often have no one to talk to about that crisis we're feeling inside, and so I feel like a major part of my calling in in the work I do is to help leaders recognize that moment, to recognize that it's okay they're in it, they're not alone in it, and how do we navigate through that season into all that God has for us? And so I feel like what God's calling me to do is step into those moments and help bring a solution to that quiet crisis. So many are feeling inside.
David Bush 9:04
That's so good, and I'm so excited to jump into this. And the the first question I have for you, Jeff, is is that you know, there's a lot of different signs that someone is maybe at the point of breakthrough, right? They're successful on paper. You can obviously use anybody that's going through a breakdown, right? We oftentimes say a breakdown leads to a breakthrough. So breakdowns are kind of the probably the most common. But there's other areas where people have maybe plateaued, and maybe they've gotten complacent, or maybe they've gotten comfortable, and they know that there's something more out there, but they're not really sure what else is out there. So any other common signs that you've identified in your 25 years of identifying when somebody is on the budding cusp of a breakthrough?
Jeff Rasor 9:49
Yeah, it's a great question, David. I think there's a couple things I want to sort of differentiate there. Certainly, we know when we feel like we're burning out or stalling out. Now, many of us who are high achieving leaders. We don't like to admit when we're feeling that. We don't like to admit a sense of defeat, and we feel alone anyway. So saying that to someone who sees our success, they don't understand. But that's a pretty classic presentation of something that needs addressing. I think where that quiet crisis comes in is prior to that sense of burnout. There are some telltale signs of things we're feeling that we we start to feel and we wonder why we're feeling them and the the challenge in that before I share those is that so many of the people I work with and so many of the leaders that God's given the audience to they're faithful people they're strong people they understand the scriptures that tell them to persevere and endure and be grateful and so we have this messiness in our mind and our heart, that why am I feeling this lack of fulfillment in the work I'm doing? Why why did I used to love running this business and now I feel like I'm lacking passion? Why why did my career bring me so much fruitfulness and energy and exhilaration, but it's feeling really empty right now? And we begin to self critique, and I think some of that goes back to Jim Collins wrote that famous book, Good to Great. He talks about perennial great leaders look out the window and credit their teams of success, but through that same window of their office, they see it as a mirror. When something's not going right, we look within ourselves and say, "What could I have done different? And there's a beauty to that, but the challenge in that is we begin to self-blame and self-shame when we're beginning to feel those things that something's not working. We pray more. We go to more spiritual disciplines at times. We journal. Maybe I just need to get right with the Lord. And and this lack of gratitude I'm feeling. Maybe it's something wrong with me. And and so some of those things we'll speak to about how we address those. But in terms of the telltale signs, there's sometimes it's an irritation. We we we're more irritable with people that we love and care for, our teams, or our coworkers, or the staff we have, or our family. Certainly, other times it's a it's a well. Well, many high achievers don't like just check out. There's a there's an apathetic sort of disinterest that starts to shade in, and it just feels like I'm going through the motions. We look at our calendar and we become resentful about all the things that are hitting our calendar, even though they might have been some of the things that we loved, you know, a number of years ago. There's just these little signals that begin to to to send this message of, man, I'm dissatisfied, I'm feeling unfulfilled, I'm feeling unmotivated, and it's it's it it causes us to question ourselves because those of us that are high leaders, high achieving leaders that have this tracker, we're not used to those feelings. We're used to just taking on the next challenge, and that's how we solve kind of that feeling. But for some reason, that's not working like it used to, or we don't know where that next challenge is, or we feel so challenged by where we're at, we don't want to take on a new challenge or feel like we have the bandwidth for that. And then just think, man, the God God must just be displeased. I'm not hearing from God like I used to. I'm not sensing His presence like I used to, and it just begins this stir of clouds of uncertainty and confusion and a little bit of self shame. And before you know it, we're kind of trapped under this ceiling of clouds that are holding back what what we thought was that trajectory of success that was so easily attained on that journey.

Bud, you just mentioned something about being trapped by certain surroundings or environments, and oftentimes those surroundings and environments are actually the success that we prayed for. We so hard to achieve, you know, that high position, the high influence, the successful organization. You know, all the lights are on green. We finally arrive, but then there's this feeling of overwhelm and other things. So, so why do you feel like, or why do you think that leaders feel trapped by those things?
Jeff Rasor 14:30
Yeah, we we we get what we prayed for, and then we look around, wishing we didn't have so much on our calendar and the pressures. So many of us that you know in this audience feel, man, the people I love, the teams, the family were were. I spend most of my time propping them up. Like there's so many people dependent on my leadership, and what was a blessing in all of those green lights and all of the achievement happening, in some ways, has become a burden that wasn't anticipated. And so what what I often like to say is, hey, when you're starting to feel that sense. Emptiness-it's-it's not a flaw, and I think if I were to add that, you know, we talked about three shifts to break through. That first shift, I would say, hey, recognize this isn't a flaw in you. This is a natural part of the trajectory of success, if you will. But there is a ceiling in that because that blessing at times becomes a burden, and so don't don't go into that self-shame. Don't go into that resentment toward family or calendar or teams. Don't go into that sense of like, God, I'm not hearing from you. Maybe I'm going to separate and pull back from my walk with you in this journey. It's not a flaw, but it is a signal. And that signal is to recognize, man, God has more for us. But it's sometimes in those seasons, it's like, well, I don't know if I want the more. My calendar is already full. I don't know if I need more productivity. I've had an executive coach. I don't need more productivity. I'm I'm overproductive, in this sense. And I would say when I say we want the more, what I think many people are are expressing, and to your question, David, is it's not the more, better, faster, bigger. We've already done that, and we've recognized that blessing has become a burden. But is the more of God, you know, kind of quotes, if I would put air quotes around more. It's the more fulfillment. It's the more impact. It's more freedom that we thought success was going to give us, when in fact the success is giving us more a sense of a trap. And so, when we reach that ceiling, it's that kind of that ceiling of success, I call it. There is more for us, but usually it's a more on the other side of productivity and growth and business, which is you know I'm all for growing the business and impacting the bottom line and expanding the team. But we recognize that that that perennial chase of that can leave us empty at times, and so it's it's pushing away from that, recognizing it's not a flaw that you're questioning this, but is a signal that maybe, just maybe, there's the more of God that He has for us. That is that freedom. It is that impact. It is that fulfillment on the other side of that ceiling of success.
David Bush 16:55
You talked about the idea about moving beyond success and and kind of referencing back into significance. So, how is moving from success to significance different than setting bigger goals?
Jeff Rasor 17:07
Yeah, it's a great question. I think if I were to describe it this way, and this is not a critique of anyone in the coaching industry. I'm in the coaching industry, but so many coaches are about productivity, bottom line effectiveness, and that's needed in the marketplace. There's a true value in the marketplace for that, David. I often say, as a runner, I enjoy running, and I often say, hey, if I want to run faster, I should hire a track coach. That's they're going to have a plan, they're going to have a prescription, they're going to hold me accountable, they're going to kick my butt, even if I'm crying at the end of the workout. I'm going to get faster at the end of that. I'm going to get that more, better, bigger, faster, and there is a real place in the marketplace for those kind of coaches and those kind of results in the lives of business leaders and business owners. However, when you think about success, that would be success. If I run a marathon faster, I would count that as success. But significance for me transcends that ceiling of success, and so I often say there is the kind of the two most important days of your life: the day you were born, and the day you found out why, which is speaking to the idea of having a a true God given purpose. And so many of us have we've got followed a career path, a business path, opportunities open, God opened doors, and and for many years we often I see this in my own journey. I felt like I was in the bullseye of what I was made to do, but then the season shifted, or the desires of my heart shifted, and I didn't have, I didn't need more productivity. I didn't need greater, you know, goal setting and KPIs. And while I was always chasing those things, what I needed was a true sense of that north star. Really, I needed to summit the Everest of finding out what my God given calling and purpose was, and so that's a different kind of journey than that classic coaching journey, setting goal journeys. What I describe it as to ascend to the summit of Everest. So few people have done that, and so few people are gifted at helping others do the same. And I think that's that difference between success and significance. I can always achieve more, but finding my God-given purpose is something far more significant. Both in my own sense of fulfillment, but also my sense of impact to my family, my teams, my community, and and when we have that success becomes secondary. You really transcend success into a journey of significance. And what I love about what I get to do is it's that journey of guiding someone up that journey to Everest of finding their God given purpose, and when we do that now, we have that ability to realign those things in our life that are successful but stalled out, or even successful but on sort of status quo, or even successful but on autopilot, and we get to reorient things around what God's really created us for, and that's where significance comes in. That's where freedom, fulfillment, impact-the life we thought success would bring, but didn't. That's where finding that in in who God says we really are and what He's really made us to do in this season-that's game changing in that journey.
David Bush 19:57
That's great. Well, and from a faith perspective. How do you tell the difference between being, you know, tired, burned out, whatever you want to call it, or generally out of alignment with your purpose or your calling and your assignment that's faith-filled and God-inspired?
Jeff Rasor 20:14
Yeah, it's such a
David Bush 20:15
big question,
Jeff Rasor 20:16
but it's a big question. I think it comes in so many different ways. I've I've I've had clients that before they were clients when I have you know my initial meetings with them that would just confess and I've been on this career trajectory I thought it was everything I was made to do but the last two years everything's come into question and I've never had that problem in my life it's usually everything not everything I touch turned to gold because it was easy because leaders have challenging journeys but they see that trajectory of continuing to climb the mountain, and they'll say, "Just gosh, the last two years, it feels like nothing was working the way it used to. I've had clients in their 40s, I've had clients in their 60s saying these same things, and what they begin to recognize is one, things aren't working the way they used to, and so that's usually, and again, we self shame over that. But that's usually God either shifting things on us that the old way didn't work, the old mindset, or the old understanding, or even some of the old values they weren't working. But we can't sort that out wise. So that would be a telltale kind of signal that something's not there. Or man, things are working, but it's just not as satisfying any longer to just come to the office, produce the results, and then go to that next thing, that next meeting, that next event. We tend to search for things like sabbaticals. We tend to look those up on Google. We tend to like, hey, I just need a vacation. I need to separate, and then we realize whether we do a lengthy vacation or you know a spiritual journey or you know even a sabbatical, we come back and the same feelings didn't leave. We just put them on pause for a season. Sometimes that happens, and then other times I think in the more practical, even though again many of my clients, all my clients are are really faithful people, mature in in their walk with the Lord, mature in their relationships, they just find themselves on edge. They find themselves irritable. They find themselves lacking motivation. And again, it's we we just begin to have that stern side of what is happening. What what went sideways? What or is anything going sideways? Like what is wrong with me? Is kind of the the umbrella question to that. Again, I'm thinking of another client in in his 60s, oversaw and and was the president of a multi billion dollar commercial real estate empire for a privately held family, and everything he touched in a 30 year career really did turn to gold. And in in the latter parts of the journey, was like, man, what it's just nothing's aligning like it used to, and is this a me issue? Is it a marketplace issue? And we just again, it's just that like, what is happening? I'm not hearing from the Lord like the way I used to. I'm not sensing purpose in the work I'm doing. I'm not sensing the same favor in the experiences I'm having. I see that many times. Those are some of the telltale signs, and I say I would say that would be kind of that stalled out version of hitting that crossroads moment, David. I would say there's another section of those where things are working, they're moving fast. I'm on that like accelerated trajectory, and yet I'm recognizing I'm headed towards something that is that is that is either not going to be healthy or not sustainable, and I'm already beginning to feel that I'm feeling like I'm holding it all together, but I'm having a harder and harder time holding together. And so opportunities abound, but I'm recognizing every time I say yes to the next thing and yes to the the next thing that are working, something is is going to break if I don't get a greater sense of alignment with what I'm actually supposed to be doing, and so again to wrap that up and put a little bit of a nutshell around that, that that is maybe a lasting point on this one, David. I would say a lot of times the question for the the clients I get to serve is not what are the right yeses versus the noes.
Jeff Rasor 23:54
Again, I serve some mature, seasoned leaders in in business and in their walk with God, but really, what are the greater yeses, and how do I separate those from the yet lesser yeses? Because we can say yes to a lot of things that are right, if you will, but they fill our calendar, they fill our plate, they fill our spirit with things that take us aback and take us away from the one or two things that really bring us that sense of fulfillment. So that we can get trapped any number of ways in that way, and it can be confusing because, again, for many of my clients, they've not had that experience in that same way before. And then you feel alone. No one would understand, you know, that I'm here. I have all this success, you know, on paper and even in reality. But I, I can't find my way out of a well wet paper bag, as they say, into that next thing. So,
David Bush 24:41
yeah, I know that you know you started out just talking about the fact that you work with a lot of strong Christian business leaders. That strong is probably up for determination or definition. I'm kind of curious of what you would define as. I don't know if you use the word strong or not, but so forgive me if I got that wrong. But I'm just. Curious to know, like, what role does faith play in helping leaders to discover clarity, calling, courage, momentum-all the things that typically lead to a breakthrough? Because I'm sure that you're coming across, you know, people that have different faith journeys and they're at different depths in terms of their faith. Some people have really tested their faith and gone out there and really taken some chances, and then there's some people out there that maybe have been fearful of jumping all into something that's really been calling their heart or really telling them, "Hey, this is something that you need to take action on, and they haven't taken that chance because they're just not at that level in their faith. Do you see what I'm saying or where I call it that?
Jeff Rasor 25:38
Yeah, I love that distinction there. I'll do my best to try and answer that. When I say a mature or strong believers, for many of my clients, it's it's people that would be in some ways like people would envy, you know, maybe their success that's on paper, whether it's their career or their business. They typically my clients are the type that people would envy. Man, when I have a problem or when I need prayer, I'll go to this person. Many of my clients have either, you know, taught in their local church or been an elder or served in some role at a seminary, and that's not everybody. But they're well read. They're well versed in the ways of God. They're well versed in Scripture. They've got a track record of walking with the Lord for a lengthy amount of time. But so that when I say that, there it's some people are. I think some people question. Well, I don't need you know that breakthrough because I have this strong walk with the Lord. I should be able to figure out on my own. And what I've recognized is, man, sometimes we need that guide. You know, maybe not that coach, but that guide. So that's that's where I would define that that kind of category of people are speaking to the others that are maybe a little bit different on that journey, or wouldn't qualify themselves as as being as strong, but are certainly following God as best they know how. But then also running their career, I would say in both cases, David, what we what I have found is, and and we've talked football before on a personal level because of our boys and others, having like your spiritual journey on one playbook and having your career, business journey, and growth plan on another playbook would be like two-you know-one, you know, NFL offense or college football offense, if you will, having two different playbooks. Like this is how we do these things, and this is how we do things over here. And I think whether for the mature believer or the believer that's on that journey in the marketplace and trying to figure out how they integrate those beliefs into their career, it just often feels like two playbooks. And I've been a local church pastor. I know the challenge of a pastor to meet the needs of the body, but so many of the the local churches trying to meet the felt needs of a large congregation, they rarely have that opportunity to speak to that business mindset, that marketplace leader, that career person, that business owner, and help them integrate. What does your spiritual journey look like, as well as your vocational journey, and how do we integrate those into one playbook? And so, one of those shifts, again, we're talking about shifts on this call that I think is imperative for our our audience to make in that journey and and seeking that breakthrough is what is my true spiritual playbook? What is that spiritual identity I have? And and yes, scripturally, no question, it starts there. What is that uniqueness that God's given me? We're told in Scripture we're giving certain gifts for certain qualities. We're we're told Paul writes to the church in Ephesus to tell us like we're supposed to be equipped for the work of the ministry in the world that God's given to each of us, so how do we actually discover what that playbook is, both as what God says and Scripture says about us-that spiritual playbook, if you will-but also the need to grow our career or our business. How do we integrate that into one playbook? You know, our our boys both play quarterback. Like you can't play from two playbooks, and or there's a lot of confusion on the field, but if you have one playbook that defines the identity of who you are, that defines the role of who you are, defines where you apply that in the you know in the field of life, that that's game changing. And so that's that's one of those things. No matter where you are on that spectrum, so few people actually have that integrated playbook of how do I live the fullness of my life? That goes back to that God-given calling and purpose I was talking about in using that metaphor of Everest.
Jeff Rasor 29:07
How do I apply this uniqueness of who I am for the purposes of the kingdom, for impact in the marketplace, and for fulfillment and impact within my own family? That is a unique playbook, and so few people actually have one of those, and it's these seasons where these the the alignment is feeling off. We talked about that where these these feelings inside that something's flawed or I'm not hearing from God. It's often that's that signal. We talked about that shift of God saying, "Hey, I'm trying to realign some things for you, for your good, for your benefit. I know you know this is how I feel like I hear the Lord. I sometimes I I know it's hard right now. I know you're not hearing from me. I know you're not sure which way to go. But I'm I'm shaking up things. I'm molding things. I'm I'm preparing a path for you to step into more more fullness. But I've got to realign some things in your life. So it's integrating those playbooks into one true playbook that allows us to live in that freedom in. Each of those areas.
David Bush 30:02
Yeah. Well, I know that there's a lot of people right now that are watching this video, and they're saying, you know, yeah, but it's kind of like Fred Flinstone from the you know Flintstones, yeah, but dabba do, but it's yeah, but yeah, but yeah, this is really cool, Jeff, but you don't really know what I'm going through, or you don't really understand. So I'm just curious. Like, I love the word beliefs when it's defined by the lies that are right in the middle of that belief. And so you've come across probably some very common, you know, limiting beliefs, self doubts, unconscious fears, or conscious fears that have been maybe limiting that individual leader from taking it to the next level and breaking through. What are some of the most common ones you've seen?
Jeff Rasor 30:48
Yeah, it's a great question. I wish I had no experience in this myself or or with others. I wish it was no doubts, no fears, no lies of the enemy coming at me. But to your point, when you first introduced me, what I love about what I get to do is I'm not here being the professional know-it-all. I am living the journey, and if I can take what I've lived and battled through and experience victory in, and use that to serve others in the same journey, then then that's a victory for the kingdom. And my my job is not to do anything other than live what I you know teach and teach what I live and allow God to introduce me to the right people who are able to receive that and so yeah I I hold no sense of achievement because I am still breaking through but one of those things that is is so easily you know thwarts our journey is to your point that we we hit these saw out moments, and then the enemy. I believe there's an enemy of our soul. I believe Scripture speaks to that very clearly. And I'm not a devil around every corner guy, but I do know the active work of the enemy is to steal, kill, and destroy, and it brings the enemy no greater joy than to stall us out, and when that starts to happen, whether God's allowing it, the circumstances, or God's reshaping, or the enemy actually is thwarting, you know, God's purposes in our lives. Either way, what happens? The enemy is his old tactic is to whisper in our heart and our mind the lies, and that you're not good enough. You were never good enough. Look at all the mistakes you've made. Look at where you're falling short. You know you had this dream to go do X, Y, or Z, but look, you're over here doing A, B, or C. And man, all it takes is a little whisper or two or 1000 every single day when we're in these seasons of being stalled out for us to just fall into disbelief that a greater future for us is even possible, and so we're also told the enemy is known as the accuser of the brethren. So not only do we trip up into these seasons, or we find ourselves in the seasons, but then those lies also include accusations of, hey, you're not enough. You fell short. You missed this. Look where you didn't show up to this. Look where you miss this opportunity, and that that in combination with not feeling a clear direction for the future, those clouds of confusion that are between us and we haven't even spoke to about. But the the metaphor I use is the blue sky potential of someone's life and and journey with God. Those clouds, that cloud layer, and that internal shame and accusation that comes can can make us feel like gosh I'll never get there and I've I've had so many people I've got to meet with and work with where if that layer of clouds and confusion and internal you know like you said beliefs or limiting beliefs or limiting kind of self language that maybe we're not even initiating but it feels like our own voice we just begin to feel like the dream has died. That maybe I never even had that dream in the first place. Maybe that was just a pipe dream. And we then, even though we're high achievers, we're still accomplishing things in our career, in the business, and for our family. We rarely just hit the eject button, but somewhere inside, we eject that we believe God has something more for us, that more of God that God has for us, and so to your question about limiting beliefs, where the again the type of audience I usually speak to wouldn't say I have limiting beliefs, but when you really take a look inside, there there's a whispering happening, there's a doubt happening, there's a fear, not because we fear opportunity. Again, we've built things that required us to go past fear and build things, but there's a fear that maybe I just miss God, or maybe I missed my calling, or maybe I missed the opportunity to really chase that down.
Jeff Rasor 34:31
And man, that that sense of self shame and regret and and even hopelessness toward the dream sets in. That's when we're positioned to just move into autopilot, which again, so many of my clients would not fall to that that classic sense of status quo or comfort zone. You hear a lot of coaches talk about comfort zone. Yeah, we're we're we're not lazy. We're not just watching cartoons and eating Cheetos on Saturday, so we don't identify with those comfort zones, but we we we kind of. Just go into the safe space of autopilot, and we let our heart die a little bit in that. And after any length of time-three months, six months, sometimes a number of years-as I've spoken with a couple examples with my clients, you look around and go, "I just don't know if God has any more for my future. Maybe this is the best it will ever be. And man, when we fall prey to that, that's that's when we well one when we we need this kind of work most because I just fully believe on the other side of those clouds that ceiling of success is the more that God has for you but it it can trap us it can hold us back and and then that that new kind of that identity of being stuck begins to stick in and man if we don't get that breakthrough, we're gonna find ourselves two years, five years, 10 years down the road trapped in that.
David Bush 35:46
Yeah, I love the the visual of you know the mountain climbing experience where you know even people at the highest level of success have climbed off of their peak and they're camping out in a comfort cave, even though it might be you know 10 times what the average person has done, but they oftentimes have felt like that they have done enough, right? And you know, there's some pretty good stories of some other people who've accomplished a lot, but they didn't stop, and they continue to grow and continue to think through that. And so, you know, we're now at halfway, a little over halfway through this conversation, and I'd love for you to give kind of a story of you know somebody that maybe was in a position where they were carrying lots of responsibility, pressure, expectations, the whole bit, and they went through a process. And maybe kind of walk us through. You don't have to tell us who the person is or the specifics, but walk us through the process of what it was like and how you guided them to reconnect to their God-given dream after all those years of doing things, maybe in a more different, different model or different structure.
Jeff Rasor 36:53
Yeah, terrific. If it might, depending on how much time you allow me to have, I might have a couple of those for you. That'd be helpful in different kind of career journeys. Just so, depending on the audience, might be business owners, they might be executives, they might be in sort of nonprofit leadership. I've got a wide audience of people in my network because of my own journey. But yeah, let me let me start with one that is a client I've got to walk with the last 10 years of life pretty significantly, and I'll kind of give the before and after, if you will. So, and this gentleman, he's often allowed me to share this story. We won't give a name, but if I'll I'll share the story in a little bit of detail because he's comfortable with that. This was a gentleman who had spent his career, had an amazing education, had a juris doctorate, was not a practicing lawyer, but was in the fundraising space in higher education. So his entire career was working for prestigious universities, doing donor engagement and raising millions of dollars for incredible universities, building new buildings, putting names on them, and he had had a lot of success in this journey and was very well known in his space. After probably 25 year journey at that point when we first met of of having this impact, but yet somewhere in his heart he longed to use that skill set and that journey and that experience in Christian nonprofits, and so had twice really chased after a role at some major nonprofits, household names that you would recognize if I were to share this. This would have been 10 years ago, but two times when he went through that significant interview process with the headhunter and the recruiter and with the firm, the nonprofit firm, their leadership in the board, he was the number two chosen. So he didn't actually get chosen. He was someone else got picked, but both times he was number two. And after having had that experience a couple times, he found himself in one of these, like, "Hey, I was trying for the more of God. I was trying to align the fulfillment. I I love what I do in higher education, but my heart isn't as connected with it. And I made this attempt, and neither of those worked out. And when we met, he had pretty much resolved to the fact that this was never going to happen. He he wouldn't be able to cross over his career from you know nonprofit higher education university fundraising into the you know kind of world you know world recognized names of the Christian space in in keeping his career in donor engagement and so we walked through a process. I walked him through the the process I guide and let me pause for a second, David, to be clear. I'm not here to tell an individual what to do. It's not career coaching. It's not executive coaching. It's not life coaching. I facilitate and serve our clients with a framework that allows them to hear from God through a series of blueprint frameworks that allows them to understand who they truly are, that identity and uniqueness we talked about, but then also how to practically apply that to the work they're doing, the relationships they have, and make it a practical set of blueprints that you can live from. Really, to use the airplane metaphor, an instrument panel. All that to say, I was able to serve this client and help him truly understand his God-given blueprint. And what happened was, within a couple of months, he got word about a headhunter. At another national, like world, world known, nationally known Christian ministry that was looking to expand its donor engagement division, and he almost blew them off because right prior to working with us, he had reached that stalled out and that that voice of the enemy, that ceiling of success that just felt like had him trapped.
Jeff Rasor 40:19
And I'll just finish out the last 10 years of my career in in autopilot in the educational space, and yet he was fresh off this experience of finding that blueprint, and was like, I just I should just throw my hat in in the name my name in the hat because I understand myself and I see where God's gifted me and you made me unique. I'll give this a shot. He he calls me. I still remember this journey. He goes in for the first interview, meets with the executive team, the board, and and his headhunter, and he's like, Jeff, I really wasn't there to interview. I was just there to share the the things you helped me discover in my God given blueprint, and I just shared passionately because they were true things about who God made me to be. I wasn't trying to land the job or prove I could do the job, or and we got done, and they're like, "You're exactly who we're looking for. And so, long story short, David, within three months, he was taking that role. He leapt two ways. He had never been the vice chancellor in higher education. He was always the associate vice chancellor, and he had never leapt into Christian nonprofit only in higher education, so that role was both a leap to the executive vice president over all of donor engagement, but in a Christian ministry environment. So he, in some ways, that breakthrough was two layers of clouds in his career, and he was able to take that job, do it successfully. At the time, they had a team of like five. Fast forward five years later, they had a team of 50. He had grown the division to 50. They used to celebrate, you know, a $10,000 check at this organization, and now they were like regularly getting $100,000 checks and you know celebrating million dollar you know gifts to the to the nonprofit. And so, what what I love about what I get to do is I I didn't tell him how to do his job. I didn't tell him which job he should take. I I helped him find that we've talked about it that alignment, that uniqueness, and then he was able to apply that and make a decision based on it and get that breakthrough, and the kingdom expanded. And his last 10 years in that field in Christian ministry fundraising, he's raised and with his teams now because he's built out teams for this hundreds of millions of dollars for the kingdom that has been it's been the most fulfilling 10 years of his career is it is it challenging yes is it is his calendar full yes is he now in his mid 60s and like ready to like hey move into consulting and kind of pare down his journey yes but in his mid 50s when we first met, it just felt like, hey, the career's kind of over. I'll just kind of mail it in until I'm done. And God's like, no, I've got something for you when you find that blueprint. So that that success is now a track record of significance that he would have never felt he had without finding that blueprint, so that would be a classic example of someone who had that track record of success, great family, really present in their church, great leader, mature believer, and just wasn't hearing from God, couldn't make the pivot, and then God's like, no, I'm gonna, I'm gonna deliver my blueprint as you live from that place of your your one playbook, if you will, we talked about that. I've got something for you. You've you've only dreamed of and felt was out of reach, and now you get to live it for the last 10 years of your career. So that would be an example, I think, of what you're asking about. Does that resonate?
David Bush 43:33
Absolutely. Would you would you kind of walk us through maybe the framework that you use with a entrepreneur business owner, to help them to go from you know maybe feeling like they've hit a plateau or stalled out, and they don't really know what needs to change, but they know that something needs to change. And what would be that framework that you would kind of coach them through, just to give us a little taste test of what it is that Jeff Razor does?
Jeff Rasor 44:00
Yeah, absolutely. I'll I'll I'll give that, and then I'll share a test. My second kind of testimony you were asking about was going to be an entrepreneur business owner. The framework is the same, which might like initially when I even say that might be off-putting. Like, how can your work help someone that's in the fundraising world, but also help me as an entrepreneur? That feels like it's a misalignment there. What I what what I serve people in is I create, like I said, an experience and a framework that allows them to hear from God in a very practical way through a series of tools that allows them to apply that in their exact environment. And so it starts with a number of things. First, I say this often: we're going to slow down before we speed up. So many high cheers. Like I need that breakthrough. What's next? Like let's find the answer. If Jeff, you're the guy who can help me. Is that is that a week away? You know how? No, no, no. We're gonna slow down before we speed up because when I when I came up with this process, I studied the Wright brothers, and again a little metaphor to plug this in here. They recognized. They didn't need to create a bigger engine. All their competitors were trying to create bigger engines, and I think those of us in the marketplace, especially business owners, entrepreneurs, were saying, "I just need to grow the thing. I need the executive coach. We need more productivity, more efficiency. They recognized they, the Bright Brothers, I should say, recognized they didn't need a bigger engine. A bigger engine was just going to move the flying machine that they had yet to really master into the proverbial brick wall faster. There was no need for more productivity, more energy, more juice, if you will. But what they mastered and why they get credited with the the founders, you know, the inventors of flight, at least in terms of a heavier than air flying machine, is they recognized secretly the need to be able to pilot the machine once it was in the air. They had enough of the energy, they had enough of the engine power, they had enough of the productivity, if you will. But no one had an ability or was even thinking about how do we pilot it once in the air. And so their work in bicycles and their work in the printing machines recognized that they created the the process, you know, the framework, if you will, of how to pilot the flight once it was in the air, and this is what they mastered and why they ultimately get that credit. So the process we walk through people with is certainly we slow down to speed up. It's not about going faster. It's about getting perspective and getting that playbook downloaded from God truly that allows me to align myself to that blueprint. And so we're going to start with some things that feel slow to high-achieving leaders. We're going to do some work in surrendering and just saying, God, I've been surrendered to get here, but I'm I'm a little bit stuck. I'm a little stalled out. I I'm just surrendering my agenda of how I want to get out of this cloud and what is next. I'm trusting you have something for me, and I'm going to surrender to that. So we're going to work through a simple process to surrender, we're we're also going to work through a process of momentum. Momentum is very different than busy. I think so many of our our clients and our contemporaries are their calendars are full, they're busy, they're feeling overwhelmed at times with what's on their calendar. But none of it is moving forward in a momentous kind of way and a life giving way. So we're going to install some practices that allows them to start to feel some momentum even in that stalled out season and stuckness. Because if I were to use the metaphor, we're rebuilding the plane as it's going down the runway, so we want to get that momentum going in the right trajection, and then we reverse engineer some of the trajectory God's been showing to them through their life story.
Jeff Rasor 47:18
So we do some life story work that allows them to see key points where either they got on course and then didn't follow it through the right way, or they got off course. But when you look through the lens of history and see the trajectory, you kind of see where you've come from and where you are, and that helps you see the trajectory of really where God's sending you. So we'll do some work on their life story that allows them to identify this is where God's had me. This is the skills and gifts maybe I've forgotten I had that are part of that future that I know God's going to unveil. And so that's that initial set of like surrender and momentum and some initial phases of clarity. And then we move over the next few weeks into some real depth of clarity that allows. I say clarity. When I say clarity, let me speak to the power of clarity. Clarity produces confidence, and so when we find ourselves in these stalled out seasons, we lack confidence. Maybe not in general, but with specificity of where we're supposed to head next. How do we get through these clouds? But when we can get our arms and hands and heart and mind and spirit, if you will, around that clarity of who we are, that begins to produce a confidence within us to take the steps in the right direction that we need to take, and then we move into a series of tools and sections that deepen our purpose. And again, so many of the clients I serve don't lack a sense of purpose, but purpose is like a light. It can be a floodlight. It can be a general. Oh, I have a general purpose on Earth, but it can also be a laser-like spotlight of what is my specific God-given purpose, and so we work through some tools that allows us each individual to learn and discover really with God what is that unique purpose that God's put them here for, and how does that align in our core values, our core heart burdens, our life purpose statement, and what that does again, purpose is nice to have, but it but it what what what is a must-have about purpose is it creates courage within us, and so without purpose, it's hard to move in courage. So you get someone, a client that's been stalled out, feeling that sense of whether apathy or stuck or status quo or autopilot that is questioning whether God has more for them, and we get a true sense of identity, we get a true sense of momentum, clarity, purpose, and as that unfolds, they truly walk away. I think, depending on how you're filming this, I've got my blueprints on my whiteboard behind me. I have a living set of documents. I've had these for 15 years for my life that allow me to pilot, if you will, just like a pilot has their instrument panel. I can pilot my life, my career, my business, my ministry, my family around this living set of documents, that playbook we are talking about with a football metaphor that allows me to know where I'm headed and how to navigate those seasons I'm headed into. That is breathed by God. Jeff didn't write it. My team didn't write it for my clients. Really, through the process of coaching and guiding and these tools and working with God. To hear what God has for us, it comes to life in this set of blueprints, and so those blueprints are actionable, and they're not just for one pivot in life. In this moment, in working with Jeff, really, they're a living set of guiding documents that allow you to continue to make decisions for years and decades to come. And so there, it's a it's a proven process. I've been guiding people through this experience for 15 years. It's a process that guides me every day. So I live what I teach, and I teach what I live. But it it's not my job to prescribe to you and overlay a set of you know for that entrepreneur. To your question, this is how an entrepreneur gets breakthrough, and this is how your business gets breakthrough. I I think sometimes that's where we miss it.
Jeff Rasor 50:41
Is we we just think, hey, it's our team, or it's my business, or I need to make a new hire, or I need to take a vacation. We have these knee-jerk reactions that we think are going to fix kind of the underlying problem of misalignment. But the truth is, when we get that alignment, then we can apply that alignment to all those areas, and all of a sudden, our team's healthier. All of a sudden, our relationship with our family's healthier. And I didn't do any family coaching or team coaching helped you find truly who you are. And now that you can apply that to those areas, they just begin to work in a much more prosperous, much more fluid kind of way. And so, if I were to take that David for a second and share about an entrepreneurial testimony. I had the beauty a number of years ago to work and the privilege, I should say, to work with a very successful business owner, and he had spent. He would have been at that time, I think, early 60s, and had grown his staff to about 6070, staff, and you know, multiple millions of dollars of revenue per year in terms of his business, but when he came to me, he and and real kingdom-hearted guy, in fact, had started a network of kingdom business owners and entrepreneurs, and it was seen as sort of the guru of how to apply kingdom principles into your business. But he had hit this plateau for three years in a row. His business couldn't cross a certain threshold in terms of revenue, and it was exactly some of those solutions. I'm going to hire a different team, a different marketing agency. I'm going to, you know, do this differently. I'm going to come to the office more. And three years in a row, despite the opportunity existing in his marketplace, he just couldn't cross this business threshold. And his wife was in the business too. They were just running on fumes at that point, even though things looked successful on paper all around them, and we walked them each through this process, this framework I've described to you, where they were able to understand their exact blueprint. And now that was equipped and empowered with that blueprint, he had that one playbook. He was able to take that back to the business and redeploy how he interacted with his leadership team, redeploy even where some of those guys were sitting on his leadership team, and we we did kind of that work for a six month period, and it was just a short engagement, but helped him find his blueprint and did a little bit of work helping his leadership find some of their blueprint as well. He called me two years later, and he said, Jeff, I've just got to celebrate. He said, you know how I was at this plateau and I couldn't break through. We took all the blueprints you had given me and and some that you'd given our team. We realigned around each of our giftings and our blueprints. And he's like, I've doubled, you know, the growth of my business. I've doubled the annual revenue in 18 months, and I have someone courting me to sell because I'm in my mid 60s and I might actually be able to have an exit for the first. You know, I'm thinking about an exit where I can go continue to do the consulting and the business growth and the kingdom work he's done. So again, this is a gentleman who is known in his space as like the kingdom business guy had reached that stall out because he didn't have that blueprint. He didn't have that that one playbook for his life, his career, his ministry. But on the other side, it was a great before and after, and he actually exited very successfully.
Jeff Rasor 53:53
And now he's living out that blueprint in a brand new way, doing a lot of coaching to business owners of how to build their actual KPIs and the frameworks, things that I don't do internal to the business itself around Kingdom principles, and he's taking that 30-year business owner entrepreneurial journey, and he's impacting other businesses and business owners the same in a very different way than I do. But it's been beautiful to see that him finding that alignment, finding that blueprint, made all the difference in his business, and ultimately where he could send the trajectory of the rest of his life.
David Bush 54:31
Wow, what a cool story! Well, I was going to say, you know, let's land the plane, but you've got the plane in movement, and we're in trajectory, so we're gaining altitude. So okay, let's let's let everybody soar and understand how can they work with Jeff. What's the best place to reach out to you? What's the process look like? And then we'll direct everybody. We'll we'll put the link to the description or the link in the description of the video so that everybody can find you. But just maybe give us give us a little bit of an idea. What it looks like when they reach out to Jeff for more information?
Jeff Rasor 55:03
Yeah, it's a great question. Thank you for that. I think what I want to share is there's no silver bullet, but there is 1000 golden BBs, if you will. And if if for a client who's asking some of these questions, for for someone who's asking themselves these questions, I want to say first, God knows where you're at, and God has a breakthrough for you on the near horizon. If any of these any of these thoughts are percolating in your heart, you're ready for that breakthrough. There, there's no need to pray. Like I pray someone, it was kind of that old proverbial story where that person stuck on the side of the mountain prays for God to save him. The helicopter comes, and they say, "No, I'm waiting for God to save me. Like I'm here to serve. My heart is to serve, and my my first thing I'm going to do is I I love to meet you, this person who's listening, this audience, and and just get to know your story. That's the favorite thing I get to do. I'm not here to sell you anything. I'm here to see if what you have in terms of a need is something I can solve, and if it is, then we get to talk about that. If it isn't, I can certainly encourage you and inspire you and point you in the right direction. It's going to help you solve maybe that one thing that you're trying to solve. But all that to say, let me find a way to serve you. So best way to get in touch is email or LinkedIn or cell phone. So I'm happy to give all those out on here. So we'll do that. But I would say, so let me just give you those. It's it's I think if they're on LinkedIn, it's LinkedIn slash Jeff Razor. I think is a pretty standard find me there. But we'll make sure that's accurate. Cell phone, I'll just give it out to you here. 303-513-1843. You're welcome to shoot me a text or give me a call. I would I would welcome a conversation, and then email is Jeff at Jeff Razor J E F F R A S O R. It sounds like a Z, but it's an S. So jeff@jeffrazor.com, and certainly of those that know you, David can reach out to you, and you can point them my way. But I'm on LinkedIn, I'm on Facebook, I'm on Instagram. Pretty easy to find me, and I'd love to be in a conversation. So once once we have that, let me just assure you: the pastor in me, the servant in me, just loves to get to know someone's story. If this is resonating, let's connect. Let's build a relationship. Let's see what you're actually experiencing. I love asking questions. Some people have called me like a spiritual archeologist. I love asking those heart, deep, provoking questions of what you're really experiencing, and as those questions reveal maybe some of those pain points you're feeling, if there's anything I can do to support or serve that, we can talk about what that looks like. I usually do that on a second call because I also know that what God's given me is a really powerful experience and journey. What he's giving me to serve with, and I want to make sure that the the person on the other end of that call is ready for what God wants to show them, and is willing to really surrender to what God wants to experience. And so, just as much as someone might be evaluating my fit for them, I'm evaluating: Are they a fit for our work? And the beauty of that is when God's in it, the alignment comes pretty immediately, and we just get to both jump into that together because we sense God is doing it. And so, a call or two is how the process works, and from there we get you in that experience. It's a 12-week experience where we're going to guide you through those kind of tools through that journey with God to hear, and we're not going to rush you through it. We're going to let the Holy Spirit genuinely begin to download that clarity, that purpose, that momentum, that alignment.

And by the time you experience, you know, I say graduate the program, you're going to have a living set of blueprints that are going to allow you to navigate these things in life. And so, it's not a long-term commitment. We do have clients that graduate, and they recognize, man, this is such a revelation from God. I want to, you know, co-pilot, if you will, in the plane with me. And so we'll have some extended experiences for someone that wants help interpreting those blueprints into their future. We walk alongside clients in that way, but that is that is not that's not something we prescribe. That is something that just comes about when it feels right, and so it's it's a real simple process that is profoundly transformative for that end user, for that end client, and yeah, for anyone who's interested, I'd love to enter into a conversation to meet you, to you know encourage you, and see what God's doing in the conversation,
